Kindred Cockers at work

Working on a project means you have to begin somewhere...so sometimes you just start.

The American Cocker Spaniel is a bird flushing breed developed in response to a need for a compact, birdy, little dog with heart. She will dive into dense brush or fields to startle birds into the air for the hunter.

Early hunters used nets to capture the flushed birds, but today guns are used. Cockers are perfect for work with smaller birds; woodcocks, grouse, quail and pheasants but will rally even wild turkeys.

Cockers love to retrieve, and learn to anticipate the gunfire with the falling bird.

This is a new project for my little Crystal and me. And in June, 2002, at 8 years old, Crystal earned her Working Dog title from the Wisconsin English Springer Spaniel Association.
