Eagle River Oldies

Found some old slides, while looking for some other stuff
Here is a late-running Antigo Way Freight, swapping engines in Rhinelander. The 4363 and 4490 are in view, and the 4371 is hiding behind, next to the depot.
my notes say: 11am Saturday February 24, 1979

By the time I see them next at Eagle River, the 4490 and 4371 are together.
On the left in the shade of trees are the two engines backing around the wye.
Notes say something derailed in the ice on the wye.
An ice castle is next to the depot. I think the depot is still in use for tourist information, but the tracks are long gone.

I think George Remington was the engineer.

Frosty Winter return.
And the film processor had a failure and the slides came back light. But the film grain was very good for scanning, and I salvaged this.

Ice crystals hung in the air and on the trees.

I don't think trains ran here much after the early 1980's.
