The Portage County Historical Society had a Grand Opening celebration for the Green Bay and Western Caboose 617.

|
The noon meal was billed as a Genuine Railroad Luncheon. And we didn't have to worry about Rule G today. Everyone had a glass of wine for a toast to the completion of the Caboose. |

The menu choice was from an old dining car menu
Antoine (on the right) mentioned that he was partial to Hungarian Goulash.
The meal was catered by Bernard's and was enjoyed by all.

You can visit the caboose and a lot of historic activities at the
Portage Plover Rendezvous
July 15-16 (Sat.-Sunday), 2006
at the Portage County Historical Society Historic Village in Plover, Wisconsin.
And with this summer's train operations, it seems the Commercial Job comes to Plover and often runs past this site daily, in the late afternoon on their way to the cannery.
(last year, the Plover Patrol used to do that switching work after sunset, but this year they just breeze through town at 8 pm, on their way to Rapids.)
