Bike N Kite

.

To help reel in my kite, I have a heavily anchored 10 lb winch.
It's easy enough to walk with it for short distances, but it's a real 'drag' to transport it to the kite flying site.

I carry it in the car for long distances.

But for a short trip of a few blocks to local parks,
I bolt the winch to my BIG RED bicycle. (any idea why it's called BIG RED?)

The winch is almost heavy enough to tip over the parked bicycle.

At the flying field, I unbolt the winch from the bike.

Although, I suppose somewhere, someone, has used a kite to pull a bicycle.

Too bad I can't pull a bike upwind to get back where I start from!

.

And you experienced flyers will see I have another reel design not strong enough.
This re-cycled cable spool was a soft plastic / rubber, and the line winding under tension has pressed a curve into one side.

A cardboard mailing tube holds the camera mounting pendulum and delicate things. I strap the rolled kite to the tube and carry it all over my shoulder.

.

Winch on the ground.

Time to set up the camera to hook on the kite line.

Recently, our sports center was turned into a Youth Center.

Lots of room to launch a kite when the parking lot is empty.
