Kite KAP Picture Gallery 2

Many kite websites have a picture of 'home'.
So here is mine.

It could be a natural place to fly a kite, except I have trees.
And there is a big tall shelter belt of 80-foot tall trees on three sides just behind the houses.
So the wind doesn't blow at ground level and I have to run to get the kite into the air. I only have three hundred yards of running space, and I end stopping too close to the tall trees where there is no wind to keep the kite up.

Today was not a good choice for photography, a warm front came through and I wasn't home until the after the gray clouds rolled in. So it is another dark day, at least for this little camera that only likes sun (its shutter speed is 'slow').

South wind of 12 mph, ceiling 2400 feet, according the weather forcast at the open spaces by the airport.
The 6-foot diamond kite 'hooked' onto solid wind at 100 yards of line. So I put the camera on there.
During this flite, I only sent the camera up the next hundred yards.

And websites usually show the flyer.

I am pulling the line and camera back down, and I waited for the camera to take a few pictures of me.

Also, I am pondering what the creaking sound is on my string reel.
The glue broke and the side was coming off.

Oh well, it's only homemade and I can fix it better tomorrow.

Earlier in the Summer, I used the little 6-foot delta kite. Easy to set up.
But notorious for 'overflying' which is a nice name for gliding
when the wind isn't strong enough to keep the line tite.
Then you might have a whole mess of slack line, like I did when I tried to pull it in hand-over-hand to get some tension up to the kite to keep it flying.

.
I was Not succesful.

Overflying also means no control from the ground.

At least I did keep it out of the taller trees.

To retrieve it, I used the 30' extending pole from my pole camera equipment.
