Close enough to see the details, high enough to be interesting, and a view that is still recognizable.
Useful for showing the front and backyard of real estate, all in one picture. I usually do building photography and scenery, and don't often do 'people pictures'. Although photos of large groups is a possibility. A camera looking from above can show everyone's faces. Useful for re-unions, picnics, and convention gatherings.

An overhead view can put a fresh look into a familiar subject.
And some subjects are naturally large, and a tall view point can show their character and perspective.
I have been doing Pole Aerial Photography as a hobby for over 20 years.
My extendable poles with a camera on top gives views from above.
Less expensive than renting aerial man-lifts or utility bucket trucks.
And I can set it up on any location that can be walked to.
The equipment is reasonably portable.
If I can walk to the site, I can raise a pole and take pictures.

For a higher view than from poles, and lower and more detailed pictures than from airplanes, see my Sky_Hi_Point kite aerial photography (KAP) index page. This is less of an 'exact science' than pole aerial photography, and has more 'restrictions'.
